What movie did you expect would be terrible, but was actually really good?

"pumpkin" starring christina ricci. i had never heard of it even being out but rented it a while back and it's still a film i suggest to people wanting something original and meaningful. i thought it would be more fluff like legally blonde (sorority girl theme notwithstanding) it goes much further and deeper with a superficial clique trying to gain kudos for public service work but it really alters ricci's character and more after than. the whole film is an example of hollywood not taking a cute actress and bimbofying her, i give ricci credit for that - she's always been a darker deeper soul ever since we loved her as tuesday addams - instead she gets a brain and a soul and really takes it all to heart.

imho the ending gets a little lame but i guess the story had to go somewhere and not just be a cookie cutter ending. so overall it's a little bit of a black comedy, but that won't detract from the unique story and characters involved.
